A sinkhole that appeared in Seoul on Thursday (Aug 29) took down the car that two people were riding in, resulting in injuries. According to reports from the local media, a sinkhole appeared in the middle of the road in the western Seoul neighbourhood of Seodaemun.
According to the Korea Herald, the vehicle “rolled over sideways crashing into the sinkhole” while two persons were inside. According to the report, two people, one in her 70s and the other in his 80s, were hurt and taken to the hospital.
The newspaper also noted that there was heavy traffic congestion as a result of the sinkhole, and that investigations to find out what caused it are still ongoing. First responders’ access to the location is reportedly restricted, according to Korea JoongAng Daily.
Recently, sinkholes have gained attention due to the death of a 48-year-old Indian tourist who fell into one last Friday in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.
On Thursday, the seventh day of the search for Ms. Vijayaletchumy, the missing tourist, began. She vanished after plunging into a sinkhole that appeared on Jalan Masjid India in front of the Malayan Mansion.
