SINGAPORE: A recent Oxford University study that evaluated the public administrations of 120 nations placed Singapore’s civil service as the finest in the world.
The Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University’s school of public policy, publishes the Blavatnik Index of Public Administration, which evaluates public administration and civil service performance worldwide.
In a statement released on Tuesday, December 3, the institution stated, “Singapore tops the rankings, thriving in areas like border services, tax administration, and innovation strategies and practices.”
The Blavatnik Index expands upon the school’s prior International Civil Service Effectiveness (InCiSE) Index.
Four domains—strategic and leadership, public policy, national delivery, and people and processes—that reflect major facets of public administration activities form the basis of its measurement system. Norway came in second, with Canada and Denmark sharing the third spot, followed by Finland in fifth. The United Kingdom ranked joint sixth with New Zealand. Australia was eighth, while the United States shared ninth place with Estonia, France, and Spain.
