SINGAPORE: Following a bomb threat aboard an Air India Express flight on Tuesday evening, October 15, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) scrambled F-15SG aircraft.
Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said on Facebook that the airline had received an email indicating that flight AXB684, which was headed for Singapore, had a bomb on board.
Around 10.04 p.m., more than an hour after it was scheduled to land, the plane touched down at Changi Airport after being escorted away from populous areas by two F-15SG planes.
“We also activated our Explosive Ordnance Disposal squad and Ground Based Air Defence systems. Dr. Ng stated that investigations are still on. “Once the plane touched down, it was turned over to the Airport Police.”
“Many thanks to the dedication and professionalism of our Singapore Armed Forces and Home Team that keep us safe in our homes, even when threats exist around us.”
According to the flight tracking website Flightradar24, flight AXB684 was scheduled to land in Singapore at approximately 8.50 p.m. after departing Madurai at approximately 1.54 p.m.
According to Indian media agencies, bomb threats caused the disruption of multiple planes departing from India on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, NDTV reported that a fake bomb threat was also sent to an Air India Express flight from Ayodhya to Bengaluru.
