SINGAPORE: The school announced late Friday (Nov. 8) that an international student from St. Joseph’s Institution (SJI) had passed away while on a field trip abroad. CNA is aware that the trip, which took place in the Maldives, was associated with a whale shark research study.
The school’s chief executive officer, Dr. Michael Johnston, stated, “We confirm with deep sadness that one of our students passed away during a recent overseas school research trip.”
“During this trying time, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family. Our devastating loss has left the school community in mourning, and we are doing everything we can to support the family.
Out of respect for the family’s privacy, please understand that we cannot share further details at this time,” he said.The teen was hit by a boat off the island of Dhigurah, which is located about 100km southwest of the Maldives’ capital Male, it said.
