The Exiles, a 2023 documentary by Singapore-based English-language Asian news network CNA, has received an International Emmy Award nomination.
The two-part series, which is produced by British director Tom St John Grey, focusses on the forced deportation of Asian males from Australia and the United Kingdom after World War II and the effects it had on their offspring.
One of the people interviewed is Peter Foo, a British national who was raised believing his father had abandoned them until learning that he had been deported.
In the best documentary category, The Exiles is up against Transo from Brazil, The Billionaire from France, The Butler and the Boyfriend from the UK, and Otto Baxter: Not A F**king Horror Story from France.
Sharkdog Season 3, produced by Singaporean studio One Animation, is another Singaporean production that has received a nomination for an International Emmy in 2024.
Every year the international television community competes to be recognised on the International Emmys’ much coveted global stage,” said Bruce L. Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy, in a statement.
