The government has stated that it would keep increasing the number of senior housing options in order to prepare for a rapidly ageing population. It also looks like a new model is being tested.
In June, at a state property, the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) issued its first call for “concepts that support silver co-living proposals.”
According to the organisation, there is a constant need for co-living places. SLA has invited more than 70 proposals for its seven state property auctions for co-living use over the last two years.
The statement to CNA stated, “As Singapore’s population ages, industry players have expressed their desire to offer additional housing options to support independent seniors.”
In contrast to assisted living or community care apartments, co-dwelling facilities offer an independent living option for seniors who do not require medical care or mobility assistance, therefore this is intended to benefit seniors who may be considering co-living facilities on short-term leases, according to the authority. The first “retirement kampung” in Singapore, Kampung Admiralty, offers public accommodation for elders together with wellness and medical amenities all within the same enclosure.
