SINGAPORE: Ms. Christina Tang decided to move into the Dairy Farm Estate condominium in 1989 because of the lush green surroundings.
The retiree claimed she could relocate to any other location, including different condos or apartments. To Ms. Tang’s dismay, however, the destruction of four large trees could soon bring about some significant alterations to that environment. These are big, towering trees that can reach a maximum height of 30 meters; they are called Khaya trees.
Locals who are against their removal to CNA expressed concerns over the decision to tear down these trees, which have been standing strong for more than 35 years and are still in good health.
Eight tenants also sent a formal letter to Lovely Landscape and Construction, the engaged landscaper, and the Management Corporation Strata Title (MCST) of the condominium.
Residents requested that no work be done on the trees until a “proper and considered decision” is made in compliance with the applicable provisions of the Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act and the code of ethics of the International Society of Arboriculture.
