TOKYO: According to their school, eight university students from Tokyo who were assaulted in a classroom by a woman brandishing a hammer are recovering and none needed to be admitted to the hospital. A Tokyo police spokesperson told AFP that a 22-year-old student who described herself as South Korean was immediately arrested on suspicion of assault on Friday, January 10.
According to investigative sources cited by public broadcaster NHK, the attack was sparked by resentment over bullying and resulted in multiple instances of persons bleeding from the head. A student who saw the incident told Japanese network TV Asahi that the attacker “all of a sudden” started swinging a hammer in the classroom. Everyone was in a panic. At first, my hands were shaking from fear.
Hosei University stated in a statement late Friday that all eight injured people received medical care and did not ultimately need to be admitted to the hospital. To “ensure campus safety,” the college stated, “we will cooperate with police investigations and care for students and faculty shocked by the incident.
