Additionally, according to a news release issued by SCDF on Thursday, all smartphones running the SGSecure mobile app will hear the signal for 20 seconds.
A brief text message regarding the activation of the public warning system will be sent along with this. To receive the signal and text message, users must enable the notification and alert settings in the SGSecure mobile app.
The SCDF advised the public to immediately tune in to any local radio station or Mediacorp TV channels for a brief message on the public warning system upon hearing the Important Message signal.
According to the SCDF website, the public warning system consists of a network of sirens positioned at key locations across the island. It serves to alert the public to impending dangers that might jeopardise people’s lives and property. To notify the public of an important radio or television broadcast, the Important Message signal is activated.The Alarm Signal indicates when an air raid or shelling is imminent while the All Clear Signal is sounded when a threat is over.
