JAKARTA: On Tuesday, September 17, the son of Indonesian President Joko Widodo made a visit to the anti-corruption agency of his country to provide an explanation for his recent use of a private jet. Following the meeting, he told reporters that he refuted all accusations of wrongdoing.
Anger in Indonesia has recently been aroused by the president’s youngest son Kaesang Pangarep’s opulent lifestyle, which his wife has shared on social media.
After willingly meeting with anti-graft investigators, he said, “I hitched a ride on my friend’s plane.” “I came here not because of an invitation, or being summoned but of my own initiative.”
Days after widespread demonstrations against a proposed law that would have permitted Kaesang, 29, to run in upcoming regional elections, word leaked out about his and his wife’s private jet trip to the United States last month.
In response to the criticism, the parliament withdrew the plan.
Pahala Nainggolan, the deputy head of the anti-graft body, stated that the organisation would ascertain whether the president’s youngest son had broken any rules within the following week.
Kaesang said he would have to reimburse the expense of flying in a private jet to his destination if it was shown that he had accepted gifts improperly while being the son of a state official.
