SINGAPORE: Former US President Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt, which shocked Singapore’s prime minister, Lawrence Wong.
“The news that he is secure and fully recovering gives me relief. On Sunday, July 14, Mr. Wong posted on Facebook, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased as well as those injured and affected by the senseless attack.
Whatever our disagreements, we should never resort to violence.”
At a Pennsylvania campaign rally, Trump took a bullet to the ear, which the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) declared to be an attempt on his life.
The gunfire broke out just as the Republican presidential candidate was about to begin his speech. The 78-year-old President Trump grabbed his right ear with his right hand and looked at it before falling to his knees behind the podium and being covered by Secret Service agents.
After a minute or so, he came out with bloodstains on the right side of his face. Before being led off stage, the Republican presidential candidate gave a fist pump and yelled at the crowd. The Secret Service released a statement stating that the gunman had died, one rally attendee had been killed, and two more spectators had been hurt.
