SINGAPORE: Four days after the Golden Mile Tower fire, one of the parking lot levels is still off-limits to the public. When CNA visited on Monday, September 2, and Tuesday, the sixth floor of the open-air parking lot still contained the burned-out shells of over thirty vehicles.
On Monday and Tuesday afternoons, it was still feasible to approach the burnt-out cars by walking up the slope leading from the parking lot’s fifth to sixth floors. One of the staircases leading to the sixth floor was closed off, but another staircase still led to the parking lot.
Because their cars are parked on the fifth and sixth floors of Golden Mile Tower, tenants told CNA that the burnt-out cars belonged to the car sharing company Shariot and the dealership Hamilton Autobahn.
These vans are available for rent from Shariot, a car-sharing company, for as little as S$6.90 per hour. The burned cars are Honda N-Vans, and many of the neatly parked cars didn’t have license plates and looked to be brand-new. According to SCDF, preliminary investigation following the fire on Saturday revealed that the cars involved were not electric.
