SINGAPORE: On Sunday, November 17, heavy rain caused a flash flood along Ophir Road in Bugis and issued flash flood warnings for other places throughout Singapore.
According to the national water agency PUB’s Facebook page, the southern part of Singapore experienced the greatest rainfall, measuring 67.4 mm, between 1.10 and 2.55 p.m.
The statement stated that this quantity falls among the top 12% of the highest daily rainfall records since 1978 and equates to 27% of Singapore’s normal monthly rainfall in November.
Flood risk alerts were issued for the following areas: Jalan Boon Lay (Enterprise Road to International Road), Tanjong Pagar Road/Craig Road, and Upper Hokkien Street/South Bridge Road.
Just one day prior to Sunday’s storm, the northwest region of the nation had experienced one of the biggest daily rainfall totals in 46 years. Around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, PUB issued an advisory warning of heavy rain in Singapore’s north, south, and west.
PUB’s quick reaction team and the Land Transport Authority’s EMAS vehicle recovery crew were sent to the scene to help drivers while traffic was still manageable,” PUB stated.
It further stated that moderate to heavy showers are anticipated in Singapore on most days in the afternoons due to the arrival of the Northeast Monsoon in the second half of November.
