TOKYO: According to Tokyo’s ministry of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, Taiwan will loosen restrictions on imports of Japanese food items, including seafood from regions near the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, on Wednesday, September 25.
Beijing made the announcement last week that it would “gradually resume” importing fish from Japan following the imposition of a complete ban on the practice last year due to the power station’s water discharge, which occurred after a tsunami struck in 2011.
According to a ministry statement, Taiwanese officials today announced the lifting of import restrictions on Japanese food goods that were put in place in the wake of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant tragedy.
According to the statement, this entails removing import restrictions on goods from five regions—including Fukushima—such as wild bird meat and mushrooms, provided that certificates of origin and inspection reports for radioactive materials are filed.
‘Exports of marine items are permitted “without a radioactive material inspection report” from the northeastern prefectures of Iwate and Miyagi, which are close to Fukushima.
