Johar Bahru is the city and state capital of Johor in Malaysia. Suburbs, industrial parks, and extended waterfront areas in the southern part of Peninsular Malaysia surround this city. The exciting part is that Singapore borders the town. It has many historical and cultural sites and religious sites to visit. Most of these places were built in the British Colonial Period. 

Johor Bahru has something for everyone, from historical landmarks to modern entertainment complexes. If you’re planning a visit to this bustling city, here are some of the best places to explore:

1. Johor Zoo:

Johor Zoo was established in 1928 by the late Sultan Ibrahim. The zoo is the home of numerous types of species of animals. Here you can explore many animals like horses, gorillas, chimpanzees, elephants, lions, camels, bears, swans, etc. There are some fun and exciting opportunities, like interacting with some of the animals while feeding them. A photography corner has also been built so visitors can take pictures with the animals. 

2. Legoland Malaysia Resort: 

Located in Iskandar Puteri, Legoland Malaysia Resort is a must-visit for families and Lego enthusiasts. The resort features a theme park with thrilling rides, a water park with exciting slides, a Lego-themed hotel, and a SEA LIFE aquarium. It offers a fun-filled day for both children and adults alike.

3. Johor Bahru Old Chinese Temple: 

This historical temple, also known as the Old Temple or Johor Bahru Kwong Siew Temple, dates back to the 19th century. It is dedicated to five deities and showcases intricate architecture and beautiful sculptures. Visitors can immerse themselves in the serene atmosphere and learn about Chinese culture and heritage.

4. Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque: 

Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque is located near the street named Jalan Skudai, which is near The Grand Palace. The State Mosque is located on a hilltop. It was built from the period of 1982 to 1990. The Mosque will blow your mind with the mix of its two architectural styles, Victorian and Moorish, with a bit of influence of Malay style. The Mosque’s four minarets on the top look like a traditional British clock tower. 

5. Desaru Beach:

Desaru Beach is a famous tourist spot in Johor Bahru. It will give you an idea of the East Coastal part of Johor, which is also very near to Singapore. Though it is a small town, there are many activities for people of all ages. 

6. Istana Besar:

Istana Besar is known as the Royal Palace, and it was supposed to be the home of the Sultan of Johor in old times. It was established in 1866 during the time of Sultan Abu Bakar. 

Their architectural pattern will give you a stunning Malay and Western mix. Istana Besar is also known as The Grand Palace in general. It is a great place to visit the Royal Abu Bakar Museum with its different types of royal heirlooms and artifacts collection.

7. Johor Bahru City Square: 

As the city’s premier shopping mall, Johor Bahru City Square offers a fantastic shopping experience with a wide range of retail outlets, international brands, and local boutiques. The mall also boasts numerous dining options and a cinema complex, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists.

8. Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple: 

Known as the “Divine House of God,” this unique temple is made entirely of glass. The interior is adorned with intricate glasswork, reflecting light and creating a mesmerizing ambiance. Visitors can marvel at the exquisite craftsmanship and learn about Hindu mythology and traditions.

9. Danga Bay: 

Situated along the Straits of Johor, Danga Bay is a waterfront development that offers a variety of entertainment and leisure activities. You can also visit Danga world theme park while you are there. 

10. Sultan Ibrahim Building:

The Sultan Ibrahim Building is an iconic landmark in the city. This grand colonial-style structure served as the state secretariat building and is now open to the public as a museum. Visitors can navigate the exhibits and learn about the state’s heritage and governance. It is also one of the tallest and oldest buildings in the town. 

11. Jalan Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Street: 

Step back in time as you stroll along Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Street. Lined with heritage buildings and traditional shops, this street offers a glimpse into the past of Johor Bahru. Visitors can savor local delicacies, shop for unique souvenirs, and appreciate the preservation of the city’s cultural heritage. 12. Skyscape , Menara Jland:

Skyscape is Johor Bahru’s first aerial entertainment space that can give you an extraordinary experience. It has many attractions and activities for its visitors. 

The star attraction is the sky bridge view deck because of its unique view. From here, you can watch Malaysia as well as Singapore. The 149m high glass flooring bridge attracts most visitors to Skyscape. You can also take some iconic pictures here.
