SINGAPORE: A law intended to thwart foreign meddling named Singaporean businessman Chan Man Ping Philip the first “politically significant person” (PSP).
It occurred roughly three weeks after he received a letter from the authorities informing him they intended to take this action and offering him a deadline of 14 days to provide comments.
On Monday, February 26, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced that the Registrar of Foreign and Political Disclosures had considered Mr. Chan’s submissions.
“The registrar remains of the view that Chan should be designated as a PSP, as Chan’s activities are directed towards a political end in Singapore, and, in the registrar’s opinion, it is in the public interest for countermeasures under FICA to be applied to Chan,” stated the ministry.
MHA did not provide any details regarding the submissions made by Mr. Chan, 59. Furthermore, it was unclear what political goal his actions were intended to achieve.
