After a difficult few years for the second-largest Economic in the world, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with academics and business executives from the United States at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, according to state media.
Along with Craig Allen, the president of the US-China Business Council, and Stephen Orlins, the president of the National Committee on US-China Relations, the meeting on Wednesday featured Evan Greenberg, the CEO of the US insurance company Chubb.
Similar to most state ceremonies in China, the occasion was meticulously orchestrated, featuring video of guests positioned in a square arrangement juxtaposed against ornate floral displays.
Following the November APEC meeting in San Francisco, Xi had his most recent meeting with US executives.
Amidst tensions with Washington, the gathering presents a chance for Beijing to bolster ties with US corporations and convey that their investment is welcome.
