The three men, who are only known as Herwig F, Ina F, and Thomas R, are charged with both illegally importing a laser into China and participating in an information-gathering operation supported by Chinese government organizations.
On the same day, two men in Britain were accused of giving China “articles, notes, documents, or information” between 2021 and the previous year.
The males were identified by police as Christopher Berry, 32, and Christopher Cash, 29, former researchers at the UK parliament.
According to German prosecutors, another person, an assistant to a far-right German lawmaker participating in the June European Union elections, was detained on Tuesday on suspicion of espionage for China.
Journalists questioned Wang Wenbin, a spokeswoman for China’s foreign ministry, about the claims on Tuesday. Recent reports on China’s so-called espionage activities in Europe are all hyped up and aimed at smearing and suppressing China,” Wang stated.
In the last two days, we have observed similar complaints from Germany and the UK.
“We firmly oppose such hype and urge relevant parties to stop spreading false information about the so-called China spy threat, stop political manipulation, and malicious defamation against China,” he stated.
