BOGOR, Indonesia Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong stated on Monday, April 29, that Singapore and Indonesia had talked about possible prospects in the green economy and Indonesia’s future capital, Nusantara. Loong had attended President Joko Widodo’s annual leaders’ retreat.
The seventh and final meeting for both leaders leaving office this year took place. The meeting is customarily held annually to enhance bilateral relations and identify potential areas of collaboration.
Referred to as a “valedictory meeting,” Mr. Lee stated that the retreat functioned as a retrospective of the advancements in bilateral collaboration during the previous ten years, including the settlement of enduring problems related to airspace, defense, and extradition under the Expanded Framework.
As he spoke to reporters from Singapore in the Indonesian city of Bogor in West Java, he also hinted at the future of relations under their successors.
On May 15, Mr. Lee will relinquish the premiership to his deputy, Lawrence Wong.
The two-term Indonesian president, Mr. Jokowi, will hand off the mantle of leadership to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto in October. On February 14, Mr. Prabowo easily emerged victorious in the presidential contest.
