Home Remedies For Soar Throat (1)

A sore throat is the first sign when you are down with a cold or the flu. A sore throat is an inflammation at the back of the throat and surrounding area, known as the pharynx. The inflammation leads to common side throat symptoms like pain, swelling, scratchiness, and discomfort. A viral infection causes a common sore throat and goes away eventually. Sore throat is a common ailment caused by various factors, including viral or bacterial infections, allergies, dry air, or excessive shouting or talking. While over-the-counter medications can provide relief, several home remedies can help soothe a sore throat. Here are some helpful home remedies for a sore throat:

Home Remedies for Sore Throat:

The remedies discussed below may help to ease a mild or typical sore throat. 

1. Salt water gargle:

Mix 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt in warm water and gargle with it several times daily. Saltwater helps reduce inflammation and provides temporary relief from pain.

2. Honey and warm water:

Mix a tablespoon of honey to a cup of warm water and stir well. Sip on this mixture throughout the day to soothe your throat. Love has antimicrobial properties and can help alleviate discomfort.

3. Chamomile tea:

Brew a cup of chamomile tea and let it cool slightly. Gargle with lukewarm tea to relieve sore throat symptoms. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties and can assist in reducing pain and inflammation.

4. Marshmallow Root:

Steep 1-2 teaspoons of dried marshmallow root in a cup of hot water for 10-15 minutes. Strain the tea and drink it to soothe your sore throat. Marshmallow root contains a gummy substance that coats the throat, providing relief.

5. Warm Liquids: 

Drink warm liquids like herbal teas, clear broths, or warm water with lemon and honey. Warm fluids can help relieve pain and keep your throat moisturized.

6. Hot Toddy:

A hot toddy is a drink combi made with honey, water, whisky, and lemon juice and is served hot. Some people even add spices, like nutmeg, cinnamon, or ginger. Most importantly, trying this would help if you were of legal drinking age. 

7. Steam Inhalation: 

Fm Join a bowl with hot water and add a few drops of essential oil like eucalyptus or tea tree oil. Lean over the bowl, cover your head with a towel, and inhale the steam. This can help alleviate congestion and soothe your throat.

8. Apple cider vinegar: 

Mix 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with warm water. Gargle with the solution many times a day. Apple cider vinegar has antibacterial properties and can help kill the germs causing a sore throat.

9. Baking Soda Gargle:

Baking soda has an alkaline effect that neutralizes acids in the mouth. It can help ward- off infection, protect against $inflammation, and lubricate the mouth and throat. 

10. Over-the-Counter Remedies:

Vicks family of cold and flu products offers soothing sore throat relief with ingredients that relieve pain, break up congestion and quell the coughing that often accompanies a sore throat. Many over-the-counter cold and flu medicines treat symptoms. Make sure to identify the symptoms you may be experiencing along with the sore throat, if any, so you can get the relief you need. 

11. Ginger and honey:

Prepare ginger tea by steeping fresh ginger slices in hot water for 10 minutes. Strain the tea, add a tablespoon of honey, and drink it. Ginger has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can provide relief.

12. Slippery elm lozenges: 

Slippery elm lozenges can help soothe a sore throat; read the offer instructions on the package for proper usage.

13. Rest and Hydration:

Get plenty of rest and drink ample fluids to keep your body hydrated. Staying hydrated helps thin the mucus and reduces throat irritation.

14. Humidifiers:

A humidifier or vaporizer in your room adds moisture to the air. This can prevent your throat from drying out, especially during dry weather or in heated indoor environments.
