SINGAPORE: Opposition Leader and Workers’ Party Chief Pritam Singh was charged on Tuesday (March 19) with lying to a Committee of Privileges about the Raeesah Khan issue.
Ms Khan, a former Workers’ Party (WP) MP, lied in parliament in 2021 about a sexual assault case, accusing police of mishandling it.
Singh, 47, faces two charges under Section 31(q) of the Parliament (Privileges, Immunities, and Powers) Act. He pleaded not guilty to all allegations.
According to the clause, it is an offense to knowingly provide a false answer to any question relevant to the subject of inquiry posed during examination before parliament or a committee, regardless of whether the individual has been sworn or made an affirmation.
The charge comes more than two years after the Committee of Privileges found Singh and the party’s vice-chair, Faisal Manap, to be “untruthful in their evidence under oath”.
