SINGAPORE: After applying for asylum protection in 2022, Mr. Lee Hsien Yang announced on Tuesday, October 22, that he is now a political refugee in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Lee, the younger brother of former prime minister Lee Hsien Loong, claimed that he requested asylum protection “as a last resort” because to the “attacks” he had received from the Singaporean government Singaporean government responded to questions from The Guardian over Mr. Lee’s asylum status by stating that there is “no basis” for accusations of “a campaign of persecution” against him and other claims of political repression in the nation.

After refusing to appear at a planned police interview over possible charges of providing false testimony in court proceedings about the will of his father, Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s first prime leader, Mr. Lee and his spouse have been abroad since 2022.
The will addressed issues over the family house located at 38 Oxley Road, which resurfaced in the public eye this month following the passing of Dr. Lee Wei Ling, the Lees’ sister, who had been residing there.
