SINGAPORE: Cathay Cineplexes in AMK Hub will close at the end of June, marking the company’s 17-year existence and its fourth theater closure in the previous two years.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 19, Cathay Cineplexes stated, “As our lease ends, our last day of operations will be June 30, 2024.” They also mentioned that screenings would still take place on June 30, a Sunday. After closing at AMK Hub, Cathay Cineplexes will have five locations left in Singapore: Causeway Point, Downtown East, West Mall, JEM, and Century Square.
The company that owns Cathay Cineplexes, mm2 Asia, stated that the Parkway Parade location’s closure in August 2023 was a part of their plan to “right-size the cinema business in Singapore”.
Cathay Cineplexes thanked its studio partners and suppliers on Thursday for their ongoing support and understanding in response to CNA’s questions. According to Cathay Organization, the AMK Hub Theater opened its doors on June 16, 2007, with eight theaters and 1,800 seats. Standard tickets at Cathay Cineplexes in the Ang Mo Kio Mall are available for S$10 until June 30. This is a savings of S$11 to S$16.50 off the regular price.
