SINGAPORE: A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight from London to Singapore experienced significant turbulence, resulting in the death of one passenger and numerous injuries, some of which were critical.
On Monday, May 20, at 10:38 p.m. local time, SQ321, departing London’s Heathrow Airport, was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok.
Suvarnabhumi Airport general manager Kittipong Kittikachorn stated at a press conference that a 73-year-old British man passed away during the incident, most likely as a result of a heart attack.
Before it encountered turbulence, the aircraft fell into an air pocket while the cabin crew served breakfast.
According to Kittikachorn, seven critically injured people suffered head injuries, but everyone was composed as they were led out of the aircraft.
According to SIA, twelve patients received treatment in hospitals, and eighteen were admitted. The Boeing 777-300ER carried eighteen crew members in addition to 211 passengers.
Our top goal is to help every passenger and member of the crew on board the aircraft as much as we can,” SIA stated.
“We are working with the local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical assistance, and sending a team to Bangkok to provide any additional assistance needed.” The Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB), the Transport Ministry’s branch in Singapore, has launched an inquiry into the events on SQ321.
