After 23 years, the highly anticipated musical Miss Saigon is coming back to excite audiences in Singapore. Beginning on August 15, the Cameron Mackintosh production will play for a short time at Marina Bay Sands’ Sands Theatre.
The musical has a successful Australian run before opening in Singapore.
In Miss Saigon, the Vietnam War is the backdrop for the romantic tale of 17-year-old Vietnamese girl Kim and US Marine Sergeant Chris. The Movie In My Mind and The Hit Is On In Saigon are classic hits.
1989 saw the musical’s West End debut in London, with Lea Salonga starring as Kim. Ultimately, Salonga’s performance brought her a Tony Award and a Laurence Olivier Award.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be bringing my spectacular new production of Miss Saigon to Singapore,” stated Cameron Mackintosh in a statement. It is undoubtedly the greatest Saigon I have ever produced in Asia.”
