SINGAPORE: A district court awarded the former head of finance of an accountancy business approximately S$122,000 (US$91,700) in damages after deciding that her job was terminated due to her pregnancy.
Ms Navinea Kanapathy Pillai was also the only director of Longitude 101 when she was let go. The company then sued her for misappropriating S$100,500 and breaking her job contract by neglecting to return certain items.
Ms Pillai subsequently filed a complaint against the company and its sole shareholder, Swiss national Thomas Haeusler, for wrongful termination.
Longitude is part of the boutique consultancy business Latitude 1.1 Group, founded by Mr Haeusler in 2012. It offered accounting services to Latitude’s clients.
Ms Pillai joined Latitude in 2019, when another man was the company’s sole director.
