SINGAPORE: On Tuesday (March 12), a registered nurse was sentenced to 16 months in jail and four strokes of the cane after being found guilty of abusing a male patient recovering from medical treatments.
Lawyers for Ivan Lee Yi Wang, a 35-year-old Singaporean, informed the court that he will appeal his conviction and sentence. His bail was increased to S$30,000 pending an appeal in the High Court.
Lee fought two counts of abusing the patient in 2018. The patient was recovering from gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures in a private Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital facility.
During the trial, he denied doing this, claiming that the victim was biased against him and that he had imagined things while under the influence of sedatives.
The victim was 26 at the time of the offenses. He worked in a market-related capacity and cannot be identified due to a court order to safeguard his privacy.
