SINGAPORE: CPT Kenneth Tay Xue Qin, a regular officer with strong fitness and proficiency test results, was identified as the firefighter from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) who passed away on Thursday, May 16, after fighting a fire aboard a ship.
CPT Tay will be honoured with a ceremonial funeral, as agreed upon by his family, the SCDF announced in a press release late on Thursday.

CPT Tay commenced 28 weeks of training in the Rota Commander Course (RCC) on December 26, 2017, after joining SCDF as a regular officer. He concluded the course on July 6, 2018, and from November 15, 2020, he served as the rota commander at Changi Fire Station.
After serving as a rota commander, he was assigned to the 1st SCDF Division as a public education officer.
CPT Tay indicated a strong desire to pursue a specialisation in marine firefighting while he was at SCDF Division. On May 31, 2022, he effectively finished the five-week Marine Firefighting Specialist Course (MFFSC). On January 16, 2023, he was assigned to the West Coast Marine Fire Station as a Marine Rota Commander, according to SCDF
