INGAPORE: The police reported on Saturday, August 24, that there were more road traffic accident-related injuries and fatalities in the first half of 2024 than there were in the same period the previous year.
Both driving while intoxicated and speeding have increased the number of fatal collisions. According to the police’s mid-year report on Singapore’s traffic situation, vulnerable road users, such as elderly pedestrians (65 years of age and older) and motorcyclists, continue to be a major source of concern because they are involved in a disproportionate number of accidents that result in injuries or fatalities.
The number of people killed or injured in traffic accidents increased in the first half of 2024, despite a decline in those incidents.
