KUALA LUMPUR: To form the government, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the president of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), stated that the organisation must win a “dominant” number of parliamentary seats in the upcoming general election. However, some analysts considered this goal to be “idealistic.”
At the party’s annual general assembly, he outlined three political pillars, one of which was regaining UMNO’s dominance. He also acknowledged the difficulties posed by the current state of the nation’s politics.
The other two pillars were moderate politics, which took the middle ground to maintain national stability, and political cooperation that acknowledged Islam and Malay rights as fundamental principles.
As a uniting administration, we have never been prevented from establishing lofty objectives. We have the right to reclaim our hegemony by the means we choose. since we are an independent and free party, during his opening remarks on Friday, August 23, he stated, “This view should not be interpreted as arrogance.”
In addition, Mr. Ahmad Zahid stated that the party needed to leave its “echo chamber” and “comfort zone” and show courage in accepting fresh viewpoints in light of the increasingly complicated political environment.
