SINGAPORE: Parliament adopted the S$131.4 billion (US$98.3 billion) budget for this year on Thursday (March 7), following nine days of debate.
In his closing remarks, Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng stated that this is the first time in three years when Members of Parliament from the ruling People’s Action Party and opposition parties have publicly indicated their support for a budget.
And this backing came from the heads of both opposing parties. We all want to develop a Singapore for everyone, including Singaporeans,” he remarked.
In her closing remarks, Leader of the House Indranee Rajah stated that Budget 2024 “provides a clear action plan to take Singapore forward into the future with optimism and hope” in a “messier, more dangerous, and more unpredictable” world.
Budget 2024 also allocates funds for policies that will enable us to convert obstacles into opportunities, revitalize our workforce by assisting people in finding new routes and second careers, and create a Singapore that is vibrant and inclusive, fair and prosperous, resilient and unified,” she added.
