SINGAPORE: When a Georgian woman approached Kok Chiang Loong for a way to stay in Singaporean, he offered that she marry a homeless man who was sleeping at his restaurant.
Kok informed Akhalkatsi Maia that a phony marriage to Goh Khoon Beng would give her an immigration advantage, including extensions to her visit visa. In exchange, Maia allowed Goh to reside at her rented property.
On Tuesday (March 12), Kok, 43, was sentenced to 10 months in jail. In 2016, he was found guilty of inciting Goh’s marriage to 37-year old Maia.
Goh, 45, was sentenced to six months and three weeks in jail for entering a marriage of convenience.
Kok informed the court that he wants to pursue an appeal, while Goh was ordered to surrender to the State Courts on April 30 to begin serving his sentence. Kok is also facing two more Immigration Act offenses.
