SINGAPORE: Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam said on Saturday (March 9) that the ongoing attempts to gather finances and deliver aid to Gaza demonstrate “who we are as a society,” as people from various religious groups come together to try to help.
He spoke at Soka Kindergarten in Tampines, where volunteers had assembled to prepare goods for the children of Gaza.
Humanity Matters, an interfaith non-profit organization, organized the event ahead of a possible cease-fire in Gaza. The crew sought to create 5,000 comfort packs, each of which included a backpack, an inflatable pillow, vitamin gummies, food snacks, a water bottle, a stress ball, and a stuffed animal.
It’s not a large sum, but it demonstrates that we stand for something and will do everything we can,” said Mr Shanmugam. “We can do more and we will do more.”
According to the minister, Singaporeans and the government have raised approximately S$10 million for humanitarian operations in Gaza.
