SINGAPORE: On Sunday, March 24, Formula Kite world champion Maximilian Maeder won the European Championships in Spain, capping off another incredible triumph.
The 17-year-old Singaporean defeated Axel Mazella of France and Riccardo Pianosi of Italy, who placed second and third to reclaim the title he had won two years prior.
Wow, just wow. I have no words to describe it. In a video clip shared on social media by the International Kiteboarding Association, Maximilian remarked, “I mean, every time the racing is so exciting, so close, and so fun.”
Maximilian won the same European title in Greece two years prior, but his participation in the Asian Games prevented him from competing in the competition last year.
Following several previous noteworthy triumphs, he won in Spain on Sunday.
The kitefoiler secured Singapore’s quota slot at the 2024 Olympics in Paris after he won gold in the men’s kite event at the Sailing World Championships in the Netherlands last August.
Among his other achievements from the previous year were a gold medal at the Asian Games in China and his third consecutive title in the Formula Kite Youth World Championships.
