Along with other NATO leaders, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called on the West to reject “double standards” when it came to the Gaza conflict on Wednesday.
At NATO’s 75th anniversary summit in Washington, he stated, “If we are telling our people that we are supporting Ukraine because we are defending international law, this is the same to what we have to do towards Gaza. There should be a “consistent political position” where “we don’t have double standards,” according to the socialist leader.
To advance a Palestinian state, Sanchez said that the international community needed to “stop this terrible humanitarian crisis” that is affecting the Palestinian people. He also called for an international peace conference. We must establish the prerequisites for an urgent cease-fire,” he declared. “There is a real risk of escalation in Lebanon.
In addition, Sanchez declared that he favored “democracy, freedom, and the right of a country such as Ukraine to exist.” Following the summit, NATO leaders stated that Kyiv was headed towards an “irreversible” path to join the alliance.
