SINGAPORE: Concerning the acquisition of two parcels of land that would aid in the reconstruction of the Woodlands Checkpoint, Singapore is awaiting Malaysia’s reaction.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) confirmed on Thursday, February 22, in response to inquiries from CNA, that the Federal Lands Commissioner of Malaysia owns two “small plots” of land close to Woodlands Checkpoint.
According to ICA, these undeveloped plots are located in the center of the region and will eventually become the renovated Woodlands Checkpoint.
“Without them, we would not be able to optimize the Checkpoint’s redevelopment, which we are undertaking to enhance the immigration clearance experience for Singapore and Malaysia travelers using the Causeway.”
According to the ICA, Singapore has twice written to Malaysia, in May 2022 and November 2023, to suggest buying the land.
