SINGAPORE: On Tuesday, June 6, two shipping companies were charged in court for releasing approximately 100L of oil each into Singaporean waters from their oil tankers.
Under the Prevention of Pollution of the Sea Act, Leth Incargo Marine Services and Hellenic Overseas Maritime Enterprises were each given one charge in separate cases.
Leth Incargo Marine Services was the crude oil tanker Pacific A Dorodchi’s agent, according to the charge sheets.
The tanker is said to have spilled roughly 100L of high-sulfur fuel oil onto its deck and into Singaporean waters on Nov. 29, 2022, while it was receiving the fuel from another oil tanker, the Maria Cosulich, at the Eastern Bunkering Anchorage A.
On January 9, 2023, at Eastern Bunkering Anchorage A, the crude oil tanker Star Prosperity was being supplied with low-sulfur fuel oil by the oil tanker MT Decorum, through the agency Hellenic Overseas Maritime Enterprises.
A marked area off the coast where boats can anchor is called an anchorage. Singapore’s anchorages are separated into three sectors: Jurong, Eastern, and Western, each with a specific purpose.
